Wow, show 5 already I wasn't even sure we'd get this far :) The recording was dramatic as Ross and Ana dropped out at the last minute leaving me and Kevan to panic a little, well I panicked anyway I can't speak for Kevan.

Anyway, everything came good in the end as I posted a last minute call for guests on Jaiku and Michael answered to become the first American on Rathole Radio. He boldy went where no American had gone before. We even boosted our number to 4 as Fabian joined us halfway through the recording and we had some great laughs. Todays show is a little longer than usual, this wasn't intended and I did do some editing but I didn't want to leave anything out. We're only 15mins over though right? Think of it as a bonus or something.

This is the first show I've recorded and edited with my studio PC so hopefully you can hear the difference. I'm getting closer to rebuilding the studio, things are slowly improving and we may even see a proper theme tune in the near future... don't hold your breath though ;)

1.) Facebook Vs ConnectU In Court

Kevan brought this one in, it seems the CEO of Mark Zuckerberg is facing a legal battle over the origins of the highly successful social networking site. It seem the concept was originally created by a group of former college friends, the rest of the group are now claiming they should get a share of the profits from Facebook. You can't blame them for trying but the judge is yet to be convinced.

2.) Microsoft OOXML Vs OpenDocument Format

Another story Kevan found for us this week. There is an ongoing battle between 2 document formats to become the official standard ratified by the International Standardisation Organisation, the first is Microsoft's proprietary format called Office Open XML and the second is the real open source option OpenDocument Format. It seems our old friends Microsoft have been exerting some pressure on governments around the world to back their offering and there have been some high-jinks in spain.

3.) OOMA (Germany Calling)

At this point Fabian called in to talk about OOMA the new VOIP product, apparently in German Ooma means Grandmother. Hmm not exactly a name that makes you immediately think of high tech is it.

4.) Nokia N800 Now Has SKYPE client

The Linux-based Nokia N800 Internet tablet now offers free mobile international calls through Skype, it also has wireless on board. I like the sound of that.

6.) Nude Cyclists Prosecuted

Michael brought us the story of some cyclists in Serbia who were prosecuted for disturbing the public peace for riding their bikes around naked. They got a pretty hefty fine as the authorities were not impressed with their excuse "it was hot". That must have taken ages to think of.

7.) Psychic Cat Predicts Death

Kevan scored a hat-trick this week by making it 3 stories in one show, nice going. His final story was the tale of a cat who can apparently predict the death of patients at the nursing home where it lives. How it does this we don't know but it's pretty freaky if you ask me. I think maybe the cat is up to something, who knows?
